We thought we’d share an update on one of the projects we are nearing completion –

Octane Construction was appointed to deliver a critical refurbishment project for a multi-national oil blending plant. The scope involved removing hazardous asbestos sheeting from walls and roofs and replacing it with high-performance Kingspan composite sheeting, ensuring compliance with fire, thermal and health and safety regulations.

Given the live site conditions, the project required meticulous planning to ensure operations continued uninterrupted. Complex scaffolding systems were designed to wrap around the structure, incorporating heat-wrapped containment to prevent debris dispersal. Hazardous materials were double-bagged and disposed of through licensed channels, adhering to strict regulatory standards.

Octane’s Approach and Actions

To tackle the project’s complexity, Octane implemented a strategic approach, focusing on safety, efficiency and seamless coordination:

  1. Site Management and Safety Compliance
    • Navigating stringent health and safety requirements that exceed HSE guidelines.
    • Conducting daily permit checks and weekly audits to ensure compliance.
    • Continuous scaffolding inspections and H&S system checks.
  2. Phased Execution and Logistics
    • Collaborating closely with the client through weekly logistical planning.
    • Carefully scheduling deliveries and construction phases to minimise impact on site operations.
    • Weekend and out-of-hours work to accommodate critical installation phases.
  3. Specialist Installation and Coordination
    • Partnering with expert cladding contractors for asbestos removal and Kingspan installation.
    • Coordinating with site managers to integrate the installation of a new drum oven, which required precise crane placement through the roof structure.

Outcome and Impact

Although the project is ongoing, it is on track for completion by end of this month, the anticipated outcomes include:

This project is a testament to our team’s expertise and dedication.

Navigating complex safety challenges, working in a live site environment, and ensuring operations continue smoothly is no small feat. We’re proud of the progress so far and excited to see the final result—a safer, more efficient facility built to the highest standards.
